Sshh! I want to share a Secret.

Over the last few months I have had many people ask me about ‘The Secret’ I answered most of them with a blank look, I must admit at first I thought people were talking about the song by Urban Cookie Collective and in the end I had to hold my hands up and confess I did not have a clue what they were talking about.

Seems like just about everyone was in on the secret except me!

So while out doing a little last minute Christmas shopping I spotted it sitting high in the list of top selling books. The Secret: by Rhonda Byrne.

Over the holiday period I decided to put in a little rest and relaxation and got stuck into the 200 pages of this best seller

Byrne claims to have traced the idea of the secret back thousands of years and talks of a life changing experience

The main theme of The Secret is introducing and explaining The Law of Attraction - we attract in to our lives that which is congruent with our dominant thoughts. I guess that is were people see much of the connection when I talk about ‘our thoughts create our reality.’

The basis of the Law of Attraction is that you think positively about your health, wealth and other areas of your life and that’s what you’ll attract. Think negatively about health, wealth or whatever and guess what? That is what you’re going to attract.

This model of using your thoughts to assist in creating your reality is certainly no secret at all. Look around you, the chair you’re sitting on, the desk your chair is at, the computer you use, the house you live in and the car you drive all started out as a single thought inside someone’s head.

After reading the book I can see why it is a best seller and I can confirm that it has many things to offer, I would recommend anyone reading this to go out and buy a copy of there own and read it and then read it again, if you can get a copy of the film even better, and for those of you who like to listen rather than read the good news is there is a 4 CD set so you can listen to in your car.

However I think it is worth pointing out that just reading this book is not going to change your life, it may well switch a huge light on in your head after you have read it, but lets not get faked out that just by reading the book wonderful things are going to start happening, Knowledge is power they say, I say it is only potential power, it is clearly what you do with the knowledge that makes it all powerful, you can read a book on playing a guitar, but if you want to play that guitar yourself at some point your going to have to put that knowledge into practice and pick up the guitar, I also bet those who have learned to swim, drive a car or do something like a martial art never learned to do it from just simply reading a book.

For me the secret needed another chapter adding to it, what was missing from The Secret is the lack of emphasis on the importance of combining thought with action. Just try sitting by the pool all day just “thinking” about paying your mortgage and let me know how well that works for you.

On second thoughts don’t do that at all, let me give you some better advice that you can use in conjunction with reading the book.

1. – Visualize: Set your thoughts to exactly what you want and keep your thoughts on what you want along with positive outcomes.
2. – Belief: Actually believe with every fiber of your being that you can and will achieve what you’ve set your thoughts to.
3. – Action: Take the next logical step towards your vision right now and the next step will be revealed to you.

The secret is nothing more than a good read unless you know how to apply it to your life.
